Aimed at all staff engaged in supporting the mental health and wellbeing of children and young people in education settings, this workshop will look at the evidence-base that supports and enables children and young people to cope with the stresses of life, to realise their abilities, to learn well and to contribute to their communities.

Mental health refers to our emotional and psychological wellbeing and is influenced by our life experiences. This can impact on the way we think, feel and behave. Social and emotional learning can change brain function and brain structure and can produce adaptive emotional and cognitive functioning that improves mental health and well-being. An evidence-based Restorative Practices framework will be shared with participants along with resources to support the consistent delivery of an approach that builds and maintains healthy relationships as well as supporting the repair of relationships when there is conflict or harm.

Content will include:

·       What is mental health and well-being

·       What does the evidence say and why is it relevant in education

·       Government guidance and policy

·       Practical approaches to improving mental health and well-being

·       Building and maintaining healthy relationships – an explicit framework

·       Application in different contexts

·       Discussion, Q&A, reflection, sources of further information

This session draws on the extensive experience of evidence-based approaches used by both presenters, Dr Nicola Preston and Abbie Deeming, in a range of different contexts. Participants will leave with knowledge, skills and resources to support their ability to apply research informed applications to their practice. The session will support attendees to create impact and change for the individual, group and across their setting.

Cancellations/refunds can be processed for this event up until 15th June 2024.  Email: [email protected]
