Local Contexts, Extreme Politics – 04 July 2024

£15.00

Description

This one-day workshop is aimed at both academics and practitioners, providing a space for exploration of the importance of local contexts up extremism. It will be useful for academics working in this area, or seeking to, as well as those who engage with countering extremism or radicalisation as part of their work, whether that is local government, charity or other. It will include short talks, discussions and opportunities to network with academics and other professionals working in the field.

Detailed Description

Extremism often emerges with particular strength in certain areas, towns, cities and regions. These local contexts can alter the nature of this extremism, both in terms of how it presents its ideology but also in organisational and practical ways which explain its long-standing presence in some places. Understanding this local nature to extremism, rather than as a purely national phenomenon, can help us to explore the dynamics of these movements, and better inform those who seek to intervene and prevent extremism.

Designed as a space for both academics and practitioners, this one-day workshop is hosted by the Centre for Historical Studies and explores the local contexts in which extremism emerges and exists. The day will provide papers and talks, and opportunities for discussion and networking, and an opportunity for practitioners and researchers in this area to interact and share practice.

Sessions will be facilitated by Dr Daniel Jones and Dr Siobhan Hyland. For more details about the team’s research profile, please check out Dr Jones PURE page.
