This tier 1 training day is relevant for the entire health and social care workforce, including voluntary and third sector organisations, as it aims to raise awareness and enhance the skills of caregivers working with dementia patients.

Caring for someone with dementia can be challenging and stressful, but with the right support it can be highly rewarding. 

This eye-opening and engaging session will enable you to:

·        Consider how to respond appropriately to people living with dementia.

·      Think about dementia- friendly environments

·       Communicate effectively with people living with dementia.

·       Promote the safety and independence of people living with dementia.

·       Signpost people to sources of support and advice. 

During the session, you will explore the following key topics:

·      Actions that can be taken to reduce the risk of dementia and delay onset

·       Types, signs and symptoms of dementia.

·       How to communicate and listen to people with dementia, encouraging them to be as independent as possible while maintaining their independence and safety.

·       The impact of dementia on families and wider society.

·       The reasons why a person with dementia may show signs of distress.

·       The actions people with dementia can take in order to live as well as possible after diagnosis
