This ½ day CPD course, delivered by Lucy Westley, is aimed at TA’s and unqualified teachers in Primary settings who teach using schemes for mathematics such as White Rose, Power Maths or other associated schemes.

The course will focus on the use of different resources that are accessible in schools to develop deep conceptual understanding in mathematics.

Content will include:

•    exploration of resource

•    application to a scheme

By the end of this workshop attendees will understand the CPA approach and the correct way to embed it into their teaching.

They will gain an understanding of how resources should be used across the primary age phase for all learners.

They will be encouraged to consider their personal mindset surrounding the teaching of mathematics and how to provide equity of access to all learners.

Addressing Misconceptions in Science (½ Day) 1pm - 3.30pm (register & lunch from 12pm)

This ½ day CPD course, delivered by Helen Tiplady, is aimed at primary teachers and TAs who teach or provide support for science teaching.

The course will focus on how common misconceptions in science might occur, how we can identify these misconceptions in the classroom, and how we can use Working Scientifically to address these.

Attendees will understand why misconceptions might occur within the science curriculum and will have the opportunity to explore some common misconceptions across KS1 and KS2.

They will gain an understanding of how Working Scientifically can be used to challenge and address misconceptions to develop correct conceptual understanding.

They will be encouraged to consider their current use of resources and strategies to identify common misconceptions, their use of Working Scientifically to underpin conceptual understanding and will have an awareness of some core texts and resources that can be used to support teachers and TAs across their school.
